What types of Durolub lubrication is available
There are 2 different types of Durolub available
- Durolub DL, variants are DL / DL32 and DL150, is a compound solution with synthetic base oil for use in various applications
- Durolub SLC is a solid high temperature compound for operating temperatures up to 350°C
What is Durolub DL
Durolub DL is a mix of ultra high molecular polymers and synthetic, temperature stable base oils.
Durolub DL is filled into the free space inside the bearing and then specially heat treated. Because of the temperature Durolub DL is hardening to a solid, porouse matrix com-pound.
There are very narrow gaps around the rolling elements and to the raceways. The oil is kept in the polymer – matrix because of its surface tension.
Function of normal grease lubrication
For grease lubrication usually 25-30% of the free space are filled with grease. During operation the grease is overrolled, excess grease is pushed out of the raceways and out of the bearings. Excessive grease must flow back to the contact zone of the rolling elements to the raceway.
Too high grease filling amounts cause a high bearing friction torque.
Changing environmental temperatures will cause condensed water in the free space of the bearing. Completely filled bearings always push out excessive grease quantities, a certain free space will always remain.
Function of Durolub DL lubrication

For Durolub DL lubrication the free space of the bearing is completely filled with the compound. During operation the Durolub DL rotates together with the cage and the rolling elements. Because of the movement along the the rolling elements and the raceways there is a constant supply of oil exactly at the point of need, the contact zone.

With increasing operating temperatures the oil supply increases. The thermal expansion of the polymer – matrix is smaller than the base-oil and the base oil reduces its viscosity with increasing temperatures.

If operation stops the effect is reverse, the Durolub DL soaks back the excess oil into the polymer – matrix.
The bearing is perfectly lubricated during all operating conditions. The oil is used effectively and not pushed out the bearing.
Lubricant service life
Durolub DL contains 3-5 times more base-oil than grease lubricated bearings. The quantity of Durolub DL inside the bearing depend on the internal construction and especially the cage. Massive cages need much more space than pressed steel cages.
The supply of oil is in acordance with the real demand and directly to the place where it´s needed, the contact zone of the rolling elements to the raceways.
Durolub DL cannot be overrolled or churned, what is further extending the lubricant service life. The high quality base-oil resists oxidation and resists premature aging.
The service life of the lubricant increases significantly. The bearings are lubricated for life – time and cannot be relubricated.
